Equator's WOW - Women of the World Festival

Equator's WOW - Women of the World Festival Orchestra - a new orchestra due to be launched and managed by ShivaNova/Equator - are looking to work with interested women musicians of good quality from classical as well as other genres and styles of music. Women musicians, conductors, and composers should send in their details and CV to admin@shivanova.co.uk 

The orchestra will be commissioning new pieces as well as cross-art form work and performing pieces by more established women, and also including cross-cultural, jazz, folk and popular music. The orchestra will work with range of conductors and artistic directors on different projects as well as be involved in training up younger girls through a Youth ensemble.

Equator's WOW - Women of the World Festival launching in March - April 2012 unique to Kent and London will be an umbrella festival. Kent venues, arts organisations, galleries, museums, promoters programmers, and curators are invited to programme/promote high-quality womens' work for the months of March and April which is of national/international significance, as well as featuring and developing work by women which have cross-national, European links or cross-cultural /global links. All work from all art-forms will be included. The festival will collate information from all arts organisations and venues, have a dedicated website www.wow-womenoftheworld.com and produce publicity, leaflets etc which will be distributed Kent-wide and in London.

In London there will also be a programmed festival with some partner venues, and there will also be festival specific events in Ashford, Canterbury, Folkestone and Maidstone. This will tie in with International Womens' Week in March of every year. It is planned that the festival will have a continued legacy gathering momentum from year to year with increased partner venues, arts organisations and promoters. Organisations and interested venues need to send all information and details of their events by Nov 30th 2011 for inclusion into the festival publicity.

ShivaNova is a dimension of new musical excitement, bringing together virtuoso improvising musicians from Europe, Asia and Africa. The creation of Priti Paintal, ShivaNova's music integrates elements of jazz, classical, Asian, ambient and club dance styles to create a sound-world that is immediately accessible yet completely unique. Instruments used by ShivaNova include sitar, sarod, Indian and Middle Easter harps, voice, tabla, Indian and Western violins, cello, piano/keyboards, saxophone, flutes, percussion, African kora and drums and Chinese instruments.
