Equator Choir Competition 2011
for Kent and Medway Choirs - Information Sheet

Following the success of Equator Choir Competition 2009 and 2010 once again amateur and school choirs based in Kent are invited to take part in the Equator 2011 Choir Competition. This event is part of the Equator World Music Series 2011 programme, and is done in partnership with Kent Music. Amateur and school choirs based in Kent are invited to take part in the Equator Choir Competition. The series is organised by ShivaNova a cutting edge world music company with an international reputation.
Entry criteria
Amateur choirs of all ages are invited to apply including youth, school and adult choirs. The choir must have a minimum of twelve singers and be available to perform at the finalist's concert on Friday 1st July 2011 at Norton Knatchbull School, Hythe Road, Ashford, Kent TN24 8AL. Applicants need to submit an application form with a list of 3 songs, one of which must be from another country or culture. Duration of performance for each choir will be not longer than 15 minutes.

How the competition will be judged
There will be a judging panel that will include highly experienced musicians from round the country, and include Paul Patterson - composer of many choral works, Kent Music, and Priti Paintal - composer and Artistic director of Equator/ShivaNova. Performing choirs will also be involved in the final adjudication. Choirs will be judged on the following: presentation, quality, and choice of material. Choirs of all ages are encouraged to apply, Winning choirs will be invited to perform a newly commissioned piece at a special choral concert in summer 2012 as part of the Olympic celebrations in Kent.

The deadline for receipt of applications is Saturday 28th May 2010. What to expect next

Choirs managed or run by professional music organisations.
Choirs with less than 12 singers.
Choirs from outside Kent and Medway.

EQUATOR Music Competition is open for applications!

Equator is announcing its first Music Competition in which semi finalist from all over Kent will have the opportunity to perform live in front of a supporting audience on 7th July 2011 at Norton Knatchbull School in Ashford from 8pm. The competition is aimed at supporting and developing exciting, interesting and unique young artists from Kent and Medway.

Soloists, instrumentalists, singers, and music groups under the age of 18 years living in Kent or Medway are invited to submit a music entry for this competition. Schools can also submit an entry of their groups or soloists. The entry must be one piece of music or a song of any genre not longer than 5 minutes on CD, DVD or MP3 format. Deadline for entries is 7th June.

The competition will be judged by a panel that will include highly experienced musicians and the competition is supported by Kent Music and Priti Paintal - composer and Artistic director of Equator/ShivaNova. Finalists will be selected after this event and invited to perform in a professional event scheduled for Autumn 2011. Finalists will be given further help, and support from professional musicians , and a good quality recording will also be produced of their performances. Also they will be invited to perform in an Equator concert in Autumn 2011.
