are delighted to announce the long awaited line up for Equator’s
summer 2010 event at the Quarterhouse, Folkestone, on Sat August
28th.

Equatorworld
music series has once again joined with Folkestone’s
Quarterhouse
to
bring you more outstanding international artists to Folkestone
and Kent.
Presenting
the passionate and uplifting rhythms of African group Kasai
Masai performing
traditional and ancestral
sounds of remote
equatorial African villages combined
with a contemporary
and urban twist they picked up on their journey.

Kasai
Masai are a five piece band led by Nickens Nkoso. Playing
ancestral music which has been passed on from generation to
generation, their sound is rooted in the healing power of
percussion and singing combined with the majestic Congolese
guitar and jazz saxophone.

where more than four hundred languages are spoken.

classes-
we will be offering music
classesfor
children in Indian, African and Latin drumming, singing and
music and other areas of world music. Please email us if you
would like your child to join.
Cookery
Courses –
We will be starting Indian food cookery
courses as well as Thai food cookery courses. This will
usually be on weekend and are generally 2- weekly courses where
you will learn about the spices used and how to prepare some
appetising and popular dishes. There will also be the chance to
sample some of these dishes. Please email us back if you are
interested as we have a limit to the number of people in the
course.
Dance
classes–
We will also be offering Dance classes in Bollywood, Salsa,
Tango, and African dance. These will be either on Friday
evenings or on Saturdays. There will also be classes for
children run separately.

ShivaNova
is a dimension of new musical excitement, bringing together virtuoso
improvising musicians from Europe, Asia and Africa. The creation of
Priti Paintal, ShivaNova's music integrates elements of jazz,
classical, Asian, ambient and club dance styles to create a
sound-world that is immediately accessible yet completely unique.
Instruments used by ShivaNova include sitar, sarod, Indian and Middle
Easter harps, voice, tabla, Indian and Western violins, cello,
piano/keyboards, saxophone, flutes, percussion, African kora and
drums and Chinese instruments.
